The visiting Los Angeles Kings took a two-goal lead in the first period and Cam Talbot made 29 saves en route to a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.

Andreas Englund, Phillip Danault, Arthur Kaliyev and Adrian Kempe scored for the Kings. Quinton Byfield added two assists.

By winning the opener of a four-game road trip, the Kings improved to 4-0-0 in games away from home this season.

John Tavares scored and Joseph Woll stopped 23 shots for the Maple Leafs, who were coming off a 3-1-1 road trip. Toronto ended the trip with an overtime loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Englund, 27, scored his first NHL goal when he flicked a backhand shot that deflected off Toronto defenseman Mark Giordano's stick. The goal at 6:38 of the first came 12 seconds after a Kings penalty had expired.

Danault scored his second goal of the season at 11:40. Trevor Moore set him up with a pass to the edge of the crease.

Los Angeles had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal after the first period.

Kaliyev scored his second goal of the season during a power play -- a 15-foot wrist shot that went in off the post at 9:46 of the second period. Tyler Bertuzzi was serving a tripping penalty. Killing off penalties has been a problem for the Maple Leafs early in the season.

The Kings kept the Maple Leafs bottled up in their own end for nearly three minutes to finish the second period as the crowd started to boo.

Toronto led 18-17 in shots on goal after two periods.

Toronto's William Nylander hit the crossbar during a power play in the third period. Toronto scored on the same power play, getting Tavares' fifth goal of the season at 8:25 of the third. The Kings had been penalized for having too many men on the ice.

Kempe scored his third goal of the season at 12:13 of the third.

Toronto was without defenseman Jake McCabe (groin).
