PREDATORS 2, RED WINGS 1: David Legwand scored the go-ahead goal 13 seconds into the third period and Nashville eliminated visiting Detroit in their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Alexander Radulov also scored and assisted on Legwand's game-winner as Nashville won the final three games to avenge playoff ousters at the hands of the Red Wings in 2004 and 2008.

Pekka Rinne, the star of the series for the Predators, had a relatively quiet night and turned aside 21 shots as Nashville became the first team to advance to the conference semifinals.

Valtteri Filppula scored the lone goal for the Red Wings, who lost both matchups at Joe Louis Arena - the first time this season Detroit had dropped back-to-back home games.

The Predators got the early lead - and a positive omen - on a great play by Legwand to set up the opening goal with just under four minutes to play in the first period.

Legwand pounced on a misplay by Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey behind the net and flicked a pass to Radulov, who buried the one-timer past a helpless Jimmy Howard for his first goal of the series.

It continued a trend for the series, with the team scoring first winning every game. Detroit was knocked out in the first round for the first time since 2006.

Detroit, which had poured 84 shots on Rinne in the Game 3 and 4 home losses, had trouble getting untracked in the second, managing only two shots in the first 10 minutes before Jiri Hudler leveled it at 1-1.

Henrik Zetterberg threw a shot toward the net from the right side that Valtteri Filppula kept alive, allowing Hudler to poke a rebound past Rinne at 13:45.

Legwand quickly put the momentum back on Nashville's side, collecting a loose puck in the slot and beating Howard high to the blocker side.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Legwand has 20 points in his past 23 postseason games. ... Radulov scored his sixth career postseason goal and first since April 14, 2008 - also against Detroit. Red Wings G Howard entered Friday's contest with a 5-2 record in elimination games. ... Nashville defenseman Hal Gill sat out his fifh straight game of the series. He has been getting closer to a return and was listed as a game-time decision. Gill has been sidelined since suffering a lower-body injury while blocking a shot against Dallas on April 5.
