Chiefs 34, Dolphins 15: Alex Smith tossed three touchdown passes and Joe McKnight reeled in his first two career scoring receptions as visiting Kansas City seized its first victory.

Knile Davis had a career-high 132 yards and a touchdown while Cyrus Gray added his first career score for the Chiefs (1-2), who rolled up 174 yards rushing without Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles (ankle). Smith (19-of-25, 186 yards) tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce and added 11- and 4-yard scoring strikes to McKnight, who finished with a team-high six catches for 64 yards.

Ryan Tannehill completed 21-of-43 passes for 205 yards and a 1-yard touchdown to Brian Hartline for the Dolphins (1-2), who had won the previous three meetings with Kansas City. With Knowshon Moreno sidelined at least four weeks with a dislocated elbow, Lamar Miller rushed for 108 yards and Mike Wallace had five receptions for 74 yards.

Davis rushed for 69 yards in the first half, highlighted by his dash up the middle for a 21-yard touchdown with 6:38 remaining in the second quarter that opened the scoring. Kelce gave Kansas City a 14-0 lead five minutes later, extending the ball over the pylon for his score.

Caleb Sturgis booted the first of his two field goals and Tannehill connected with Hartline to trim Kansas City's lead to 14-10. Smith and McKnight sandwiched TDs around Sturgis' 51-yard field goal and a safety before Gray capped the scoring with a 6-yard scoring run late in the fourth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hartline was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after he executed a golfing motion to celebrate his touchdown reception. ... Chiefs LB Tamba Hali forced a fumble for the 29th time in his career, tying Neil Smith for second in team history. ... Kansas City Pro Bowl S Eric Berry was ruled inactive with an ankle injury.
