Troy Smith passed for 356 yards and a touchdown and Frank Gore rushed for 87 yards and a score as the San Francisco 49ers came from behind to earn a 23-20 victory in overtime against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Joe Nedney kicked a 29-yard field goal at the 9:38 mark of overtime to give San Francisco (3-6) the win.

Michael Crabtree pulled down a 16-yard touchdown pass from Smith with 2:10 left in the game to give the 49ers a 20-17 lead.

But rookie Sam Bradford led the Rams all the way down the field in the final minutes, giving Josh Brown the opportunity to tie it as time expired in regulation with a 33-yard field goal.

The 49ers took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter on Frank Gore’s 1-yard touchdown run and pushed it to 10-3 with a field goal early in the second, but Bradford threw a touchdown pass to Danny Amendola to tie it in the second and Steven Jackson capped a seven-play drive in the third with a 13-yard touchdown run to put St. Louis ahead 17-10.

Jackson finished with 148 yards from scrimmage for the Rams (4-5).
