Adam Thistlewood had a career-high 20 points and tied a career high with five 3-pointers as Colorado State pulled away for a 79-69 victory over Washington State in the fifth-place game of the Cayman Islands Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

Nico Carvacho had 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Rams (5-3).

Colorado State's David Roddy had 12 points and five rebounds, Kris Martin had 11 points and six rebounds and Isaiah Stevens had eight points, six rebounds and four assists for the Rams, who shot a season-high 54.9 percent and have won the last nine in the series.

Jeff Pollard tied a career with 16 points and had a career-high three 3-pointers, CJ Elleby had 16 points and six rebounds, and Isaac Bonton had 11 points and five rebounds for the Cougars (3-4).

The Rams made 17 of 26 field goal attempts in the second half to take control after Washington State got within three points with 8:33 remaining.

Thistlewood, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, was 6-of-9 from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Carvacho was 7 of 10 from the field and added three assists.

Elleby and Bonton had two 3-pointers apiece, although they were a combined 4-of-18 from distance. The Cougars shot 39.7 percent and made only 9 of 31 3-point attempts.

The Rams had a 44-28 rebounding edge.

Pollard's 3-pointer about four minutes into the second half gave the Cougars a 40-39 lead before Thistlewood hit a pair of 3-pointers and Roddy had five points in a 17-4 run as the Rams took their largest lead at 56-44 with just under 12 minutes remaining.

Elleby hit a pair of 3-point shots to help the Cougars score 13 of the next 17 points to get within three at 60-57, but they did not get closer.
