Charles Manning Jr. came off the bench to score 16 points as host LSU handed Maryland-Baltimore County its first loss, 77-50 on Tuesday night in Baton Rouge, La.

Manning and the rest of the reserves for the Tigers (3-1) outscored the Retrievers' subs 32-16. Nine of the 10 Tigers who played scored.

LSU freshman Trendon Watford added 12 points and 12 rebounds and Darius Days had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Dimitrije Spasojevic scored 14 points and L.J. Owens added 10 to lead the Retrievers (4-1), who were playing just their second road game of the season.

The Tigers outrebounded UMBC 49-31 and shot better (49 percent to 31 percent).

Both teams shot poorly on 3-pointers and free throws. LSU made just 5 of 24 3-pointers and UMBC made just 5 of 33. LSU sank 14 of 22 free throws and UMBC made just 7 of 16.

The Tigers committed 15 turnovers after having averaged more than 22 through their first three games.

It was the last game for both teams before they participate in a weekend tournament in Jamaica.

LSU led by 16 points at halftime and expanded its advantage early in the second half.

Watford scored four points as the Tigers pushed the lead to 47-27 with 16 minutes remaining.

LSU took its biggest lead, 74-44, with 3:52 remaining.

The Retrievers took advantage of a cold start by the Tigers to jump to a 9-1 lead.

LSU's first basket was a Days layup that cut the deficit to 11-5 more than seven minutes into the game.

UMBC led 17-13 before it went cold and the Tigers took advantage by scoring 12 straight points, led by Emmitt Williams' six.

Keondre Kennedy's jumper ended a six-minute field-goal drought for the Retrievers and pulled them within 25-19 with 4:45 remaining.

Mays had four points during a 14-4 run that gave LSU a 39-23 halftime lead.
