David Duke scored 21 points, Alpha Diallo added 15 points and 10 rebounds and host Providence easily defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology 76-47 on Saturday.

Diallo has recorded a double-double in the first two games.

Maliek White had 11 points for the Friars, who won their second in a row and improved to 62-4 against nonconference opponents at home under head coach Ed Cooley.

Zach Cooks led the Highlanders with 22 points, although he spent much of the second half in foul trouble. Cooks was their only player to reach double figures.

After a choppy start, the Friars began to pull away for a 25-15 lead on Diallo's dunk with 5:37 remaining in the first half.

NJIT missed five consecutive shots and Providence took advantage, going ahead 32-17 on a jumper by Diallo.

The Highlanders were hurt by 14 turnovers in the first half as they trailed 34-19 at the break.

Cooks, who scored 23 points while playing all 40 minutes in the season-opening loss to Colgate, paced the Highlanders with nine points but had four turnovers in the first half.

The Friars held a 15-point halftime advantage despite missing 10 of their 12 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

Cooks had three early baskets, including a trey, for NJIT as it closed within 37-28 with 15:36 left.

Duke responded for Providence with a 3-pointerat the top of the key to move back ahead by 12 at 40-28. Following an empty NJIT possession, White drained a trey for a 15-point lead.

The Friars' run continued and, suddenly, they led 48-28 when sixth-year senior Emmitt Holt knocked down a 3-pointer with 12:33 remaining.

NJIT missed three more shots, Duke converted a jumper, Diallo hit a trey and the lead swelled to 53-28 following a 16-0 spurt.
