Colorado sophomore wing D'Shawn Schwartz made five 3-pointers scored 19 points as the Buffaloes beat Dayton 78-73 in a first-round NIT game Tuesday night in Boulder, Colo.

Colorado point guard McKinley Wright IV also had 19 points and added five assists against the team he signed with out of high school. He was released from his letter-of-intent with the Flyers when coach Archie Miller left for Indiana after the 2016-17 season.

Buffaloes sophomore Tyler Bey had a double-double in the first half and finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The fourth-seeded Buffaloes (22-12) advance to play the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 1 seed Alabama and No. 8 seed Norfolk State. The date and location of the second-round game is to be determined. At the end of the game, Colorado fans chanted, "We want Bama! We want Bama!"

Freshman forward Obi Toppin, the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, scored 21 points to lead fifth-seeded Dayton (21-12). Toppin, who entered the game shooting 66.2 percent, made 9 of 12 shots from the field. Jalen Crutcher scored 14 for the Flyers while Ryan Mikesell had 13 and Jordan Davis contributed 12.

Schwartz hit a 3-pointer with 4:12 left to put Colorado up 69-65, its largest lead of the game at the time. Wright gave the Buffaloes more breathing room with a drive and a scoop shoot with 2:57 to go, and Schwartz followed with another long ball for a 74-65 lead.

Colorado has won 11 of its past 14 games.

The Buffaloes had a scare in the second half as Bey missed about seven minutes of game action after a Dayton player rolled up on his left leg as he was fighting for position for a potential rebound. Bey limped to the bench and then the locker room, but he returned to the floor with 5:23 remaining.

Bey's offensive rebound and follow with eight seconds to go in the first half gave him a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds). However, Dayton got the last shot, and Dwayne Cohill hit a 15-footer off the dribble with two seconds remaining to cut Colorado's lead to 37-35.
