Matt Farrell added 17 points and seven assists, and Bonzie Colson finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Fighting Irish (5-0). Notre Dame advances to take on No. 6 Wichita State in the tournament championship game on Wednesday.
Duop Reath scored 17 points to lead the Tigers (3-1), who will face Marquette in the third-place game on Wednesday. Reath was the only LSU player who wound up with double-figure points.
LSU was coming off a comeback win over Michigan on Monday but was never in the game against Notre Dame. Tigers starting guard Brandon Sampson injured his ankle 30 seconds into the game and did not return. Things got worse from there for LSU.
Notre Dame never trailed in the first half and was by up 18 after Gibbs and Colson knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers in final two minutes before intermission.
Reath had 14 points in the first half for the Tigers, but LSU shot just 31 percent and went into halftime trailing 40-24.
Farrell knocked down a 3-pointer early in the second half as the Fighting Irish's lead ballooned to 53-33. LSU never mounted a serious comeback threat and took its first defeat of the season under new coach Will Wade.
Gibbs hit six of Notre Dame's 15 3-pointers and also had four assists and three rebounds.
LSU shot 36.5 percent from the field for the game, while Notre Dame hit 51.6 percent of its shots.
