Kansas State attacked from the outset and never relented Wednesday night, downing Oklahoma State 96-88 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.

The Wildcats shot 56 percent from the floor and scored 48 points in the paint, snapping a two-game losing streak to improve to 14-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big 12.

Kansas State guard Barry Brown scored a team-high 22 points and forward D.J. Johnson added 18 on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, all from close range. Guards Wesley Iwundu and Kamau Stokes added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

On a night set up for something special -- Brad Underwood coaching against his alma mater for the first time, in the 1,000th game in legendary Gallagher-Iba -- the Cowboys instead fell to 10-8 overall and 0-6 in the Big 12, losing their 12th straight in the conference dating to last season.

Guard Jeffrey Carroll led Oklahoma State with 24 points and guard Jawun Evans added 20. But 19 turnovers and porous defense in the paint were costly for the Cowboys.

The teams combined for 105 points of offense in the first half via very different approaches.

Oklahoma State led 54-51 at the break on the strength of its perimeter game, hitting 9 of 14 shots from beyond the arc. For the Cowboys, it was their most first-half 3-pointers since November 2013.

Carroll and forward Leyton Hammonds each fired in three 3s, with Carroll leading all scorers with 15 points. Evans added 14 for the Cowboys.

Kansas State attacked the rim, time and again, scoring 28 points in the paint. The Wildcats' aggressiveness also resulted in trips to the foul line, where they added 13 points.

Brown and Stokes attacked the most, combining for 21 points. Johnson added 10, all in the paint, scoring frequently on layups and follow shots.

The Cowboys shot 52.9 percent from the floor and the Wildcats were at 50 percent, indicative of a torrid first half.

The game was in drastic contrast to last season's game in Stillwater, where Oklahoma State won 58-55 in overtime.
