Kansas State used a second-half surge to put away pesky Prairie View A&M 74-55 Tuesday night at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.
The Wildcats outscored the Panthers 39-26 after intermission. It was the seventh time in nine games that Kansas State posted at least 70 points.
The win was No. 400 for coach Bruce Weber, now in his fifth season with the Wildcats. He is 400-210 all-time, including 87-55 at Kansas State.
The Wildcats (8-1) were led by Dean Wade's season-high 19 points, one off his career high. Barry Brown added 12 points (all on 3-pointers), as did D.J. Johnson. Kamau Stokes chipped in 11. Wade also led the Wildcats with nine rebounds.
Prairie View A&M (2-7) was led by Daquan Cook with 18 points. Zachary Hamilton added 14 points.
The Wildcats continued to shoot the ball well from the field. They connected on 25 of 46 field-goal attempts (54.3 percent). The Panthers shot 39.3 percent (22 of 56).
A 12-0 run before the first media timeout of the second half took a slim Kansas State margin and stretched it to 15 points. The Wildcats hit three 3-pointers plus had a traditional three-point play in the run. Kansas State extended the advantage to as many as 22 before the midpoint of the second half.
The Wildcats had trouble shaking the Panthers in the first half. In fact, Prairie View held a 24-23 lead with 2:55 remaining before the break. The Wildcats finally got going, hitting all four of their made 3-point field goals in the final 2:40. A 12-2 run turned the deficit into a 35-26 lead before a late trey cut the halftime lead to 35-29.
