CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Matched against the nation's leading scorer, Illinois senior guard Tracy Abrams enjoyed a game for the ages as the Fighting Illini earned a 92-73 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon at State Farm Center.

Abrams went over the 1,000-point mark early in the game, then kept rolling for a career-high 31 points.

He canned 10 of 12 shots from the field, 7 of 8 from 3-point range and 4 of 6 free throws.

Abrams outdueled Central Michigan guard Marcus Keene, who entered the day averaging 31.4 points per game but wound up needing 23 shots to get 25 points.

Sophomore forward Leron Black added a career-high 21 points for Illinois (8-3), which shot 53 percent from the floor in winning its fourth in a row.

Senior guard Braylon Rayson contributed 18 points for the Chippewas (8-3), who had their four-game winning streak ended.

Central Michigan took a 16-15 lead on junior center Luke Meyer's jumper just 5:38 into the game, but Illinois reeled off 17 points in a row.

The spree started with a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Jalen Coleman-Lands and ended 3:54 later on senior center Maverick Morgan's jumper.

Though Illinois built its lead to 39-20 on Abrams' 3-pointer with 7:11 left in the half, the Chippewas responded with a 13-0 run that helped the visitors pull within 46-36 at intermission.

Abrams had 23 of his points by the break, which all but ensured he would break his previous career high of 27 set as a true sophomore on Dec. 29, 2012, against Auburn.

Abrams, who became the 49th player in Illinois annals to crack the 1,000-point barrier, missed all of the last two seasons due to two different injuries.
