Tra Holder scored 24 points to lead Arizona State to a 96-74 victory over Cal Poly on Sunday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz.

Shannon Evans II scored 20 points for Arizona State (2-0). Torian Graham added 18 points, and Obinna Oleka had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Kyle Toth scored 21 points for Cal Poly (0-2). Josh Martin had 17 points, and Jaylen Shead finished with 11.

Toth made two 3-pointers early in the second half to help Cal Poly take a 46-41 lead. The Mustangs led by five before the Sun Devils used a 9-3 run to take a 53-51 edge on a 3-pointer by Kodi Justice. A subsequent 9-1 run gave Arizona State a 62-54 advantage. The Sun Devils went up by 10 on two free throws by Oleka and continued to pull away.

Arizona State led comfortably at times in the first half but was clinging to a 39-38 lead at the break. The Sun Devils went up 10-7 on a layup by Holder, took a seven-point lead on two free throws by Ramon Vila and went up by eight on a jumper by Oleka.

The Sun Devils led 23-13 midway through the opening period, but the Mustangs battled back. Cal Poly mounted an 8-0 run to get within two on a layup by Shead. Arizona State regained a seven-point lead on two free throws by Evans, but Cal Poly tied the game on back-to-back 3-pointers by Toth and Victor Joseph.

The Mustangs went up 38-36 on a dunk by Martin, but a free throw by Holder sent the Sun Devils into the locker room with a one-point lead at the break.

Arizona State shot 50.9 percent from the field overall and made 7 of 19 from 3-point range. Cal Poly shot 43.1 percent and made 12 of 32 from beyond the arc.
