Mindaugas Kacinas scored 18 points while Laimonas Chatkevicius and Michael Carrera each added 17 as South Carolina held off Hofstra for a 94-84 win in the semifinal round of the Paradise Jam on Sunday at Virgin Islands Sport & Fitness Center in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Chatkevicius, Kacinas and Carrera, all senior forwards, were three of the Gamecocks' five double-digit scorers. Junior guard Sindarius Thornwell contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for South Carolina (4-0).
Juan'ya Green, a senior guard, scored 28 points and senior guard-forward Ameen Tanksley had 18 for Hofstra (3-1), which was coming off an 82-77 victory over Florida State in the first round of the Paradise Jam.
Brian Bernardi, a junior guard who scored 24 against the Seminoles, was held to 14 points for the Pride.
South Carolina led 46-39 at halftime. Bernardi's 3-pointer with 11:14 to play gave the Pride a 65-64 lead, but the Gamecocks scored 19 of the next 27 points to seal it.
The Gamecocks face Tulsa in the Paradise Jam championship game Monday night while Hofstra plays Indiana State in third-place game earlier in the day.
