LEXINGTON, Ky. -- No. 20 Kentucky, coming off one of its most historic collapses in school history, was looking to get back on track on Saturday and did exactly that with an 80-61 win over Florida in a Southeastern Conference game.

Kentucky (17-6, 7-3 in the SEC) was reeling after blowing a 21-point lead in an 84-77 loss on Tuesday at Tennessee.

Meanwhile, Florida (15-8, 6-4) was red hot, winning of five of its last six games with only a one-point loss at Vanderbilt spoiling the perfect run.

"It was a great bounce-back game," Kentucky coach John Calipari said. "To do this against this team -- this team beat West Virginia by 20 and they had won five of six games -- so they had been playing well. But this was good for us, good win."

But Kentucky, playing without injured forward Alex Poythress, dominated Florida.

The Wildcats jumped to a 10-2 lead, forcing a Gators timeout less than two minutes into the game. Even after the timeout, Kentucky pushed the margin to 18-5, forcing a second timeout.

"Not that we would have won the game by any stretch, but it's just discouraging that we weren't even competitive," Florida coach Mike White said.

"At times this year, really until the last week, our defensive numbers were really good. I want to say we were like sixth in the country in defensive efficiency.

"And that's not the team that was out there today. That's not who we were."

Kentucky went on to increase the lead to 24-5 and later push it to 42-18, its largest advantage of the first half, with 5:20 left.

At that point, freshman guard Jamal Murray had 17 points and sophomore guard Tyler Ulis 13. Together, they were 11-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range.

Kentucky led 50-32 at halftime. Murray had 20 points and Ulis 15. The Wildcats shot 62.1 percent from the field.

Florida got 10 points from senior forward Dorian Finney-Smith. The Gators shot just 36.7 percent from the field.

The second half opened as a repeat of the first, as Kentucky had an 8-0 run to lead 58-32, again forcing a Florida timeout less than two minutes in.

Kentucky coasted from the there to the win, unlike the previous time out in the loss at Tennessee.

"When you're up that many points, you're going to massage it and take a shot late," Calapari said. "If you can get it in transition, you do. If you don't, you grind it out. And that's why historically my teams get up 20, they win.

"We didn't do it at Tennessee. We shot quick shots. We broke down defensively. We didn't come up with any tough rebounds. This thing today never got under 14 and so I thought our kids did good. I like how they responded."

Murray made 8-of-10 shots from 3-point range to finish with 35 points, the first Calipari-coached player at Kentucky with multiple 30-point games. He scored 33 against Ohio State.

"Jamal Murray stole the show with his ability to make shots; I think he's still open right now," White joked. "He just did whatever he wanted to do any time he wanted to do it."

Ulis finished with 18 points and 11 assists, his third double-double of the season. Junior forward Derek Willis added 12 points and six rebounds.

Finney-Smith paced Florida with 24 points and sophomore center John Egbunu added 12.

Kentucky shot 51.7 percent from the field, including 60 percent from 3-point range. Florida shot 39.6 percent, including 31.6 percent on 3-pointers.

Kentucky, one game out of first place in the SEC, hosts Georgia on Tuesday before a crucial trip to No. 25 South Carolina on Saturday. Florida hosts Ole Miss on Tuesday.

NOTES: As a player in 1998, Florida coach Mike White helped give Ole Miss its first win in Lexington in 71 years, collecting 16 points and six assists to lead the 73-64 Valentine's Day upset. It was the last loss of the year for eventual 1998 NCAA champion Kentucky. ... It has been 18 years since an unranked Florida team defeated a ranked Kentucky team in Rupp Arena. ... Saturday was the first meeting between Kentucky coach John Calipari and White. ... Kentucky has won 33 straight games at Rupp Arena and the Wildcats are 32-7 under John Calipari after a loss.
