Damon Lynn scored a season-high 32 points as New Jersey Institute of Technology defeated St. John's 83-74 in nonconference action Sunday afternoon at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y.
Lynn, a junior guard, had a previous high of 27 points in NJIT's win at Southern Florida on Nov. 16.
Junior forward Tim Coleman totaled 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks and senior guard Ky Howard had 12 points and nine assists for the Highlanders (7-5), who had dropped two of three entering Sunday.
Federico Mussini, a freshman guard and the Red Storm's leading scorer, finished with 20 points, redshirt junior forward Christian Jones had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, and freshman center Yankuba Sima amassed six points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks.
St. John's (7-5) has back-to-back losses after Friday's 73-51 setback against Incarnate Word.
The Highlanders led 39-35 at halftime and used a 15-0 run in the second to go up 62-50 with 9:46 remaining, but the Red Storm pulled within 75-72 with 55 seconds to go.
Lynn and Howard each made two free throws in the final 26 seconds to seal the victory.
