Georgia guard J.J. Frazier came off the bench to score 23 points, including two clutch free throws in the final seconds, to lead the Bulldogs to a hard-fought 86-82 win over Oakland on Tuesday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Georgia.
In a tight, back-and-forth battle, Georgia led 71-70 with seven minutes to play. But Oakland wouldn't go away, and after guard Max Hooper hit a 3-pointer, the game was tied, 80-80, with 1:13 to play.
Frazier and center Yante Maten each made a pair of free throws in the final 20 seconds to hold off the Golden Grizzlies (3-3). Maten, coming off a career-high 21 points in Saturday's loss at Seton Hall, scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Oakland forward Jalen Hayes and guard Kahlil Felder each finished with 23 point to lead the Grizzlies
Oakland led 37-34 at halftime, behind 13 points from Hayes and 12 from Felder.
Georgia made just 3 of 16 3-point attempts in the first half, but heated up in the second half from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs finished 7 of 22 on 3-pointers.
Georgia point guard Charles Mann added 15 points and dished out five assists for the Bulldogs (3-2).
