Connecticut 58, USF 44: Amida Brimah posted 13 points, eight rebounds and six blocks as the visiting Huskies overcame a slow start to cruise past the Bulls.

Ryan Boatright contributed to a balanced scoring effort with 10 points for Connecticut (8-5, 1-1 American Athletic), which improved to 13-2 all-time against USF. Omar Calhoun added eight points and Daniel Hamilton chipped in seven as the Huskies shot 57.1 percent in the second half.

Corey Allen Jr. was the only player to finish in double figures with 12 points for the Bulls (7-9, 1-2), who set a season low in points. Second-leading scorer Chris Perry was held to five points on 2-of-5 shooting and recorded a team-high eight boards.

UConn misfired on 12 of its first 15 field-goal attempts and Perry scored nearly as many points through 11 minutes (five) as the Huskies, who trailed 13-6 after Perry’s jumper with 9:18 to go. Brimah knocked down a pair of free throws with just over eight minutes left and Boatright’s layup on UConn’s next possession ignited a 9-of-15 finish to the first half as the Huskies pulled ahead 28-24 by intermission.

USF drew within two on the opening possession of the second half, but the Bulls went nearly six minutes without a field goal while Boatright and Hamilton connected on consecutive jumpers to spark a 12-0 run. Ruben Guerrero ended the surge with a bucket and Troy Holston Jr. drained a 3-pointer to make it 46-33 with 11 ½ minutes left, but another field-goal drought of more than 7 ½ minutes allowed UConn to stretch its lead to 21.

GAME NOTEBOOK: UConn went 1-of-10 beyond the arc in the first half, but 3-of-4 in the second half. … Bulls G Anthony Collins tallied five assists, leaving him three short of 500 for his career. … The Huskies improved to 43-17 all-time against Florida-based schools.
