No. 8 Virginia 72, No. 6 Duke 63: Malcolm Brogdon scored a team-high 23 points as the Cavaliers edged the Blue Devils in Greensboro, N.C., to win their first ACC tournament title since 1976.

Tournament MVP Joe Harris had 13 of his 15 points in the second half and Anthony Gill added 12 points and seven rebounds for top seed Virginia (28-6), which has won 16 of its last 17. Akil Mitchell chipped in with seven points and 15 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who held Duke to 38.1 percent shooting.

Jabari Parker led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds for the third-seeded Blue Devils (26-8), who made 8-of-14 from 3-point range. Rodney Hood recorded 13 points and Amile Jefferson had 11 for Duke.

Duke rallied from nine back to tie the game at 19 on Parker’s 3-pointer with 3:50 left in the first half before London Perrantes scored five to help Virginia edge in front 28-25 at intermission. Parker made three more baskets in the first five minutes of the second half as the Blue Devils took a 34-33 lead.

Brogdon scored off a pass from Harris, Mitchell tipped in a miss and Gill made a pair of free throws as the Cavaliers turned a tied game into a 59-53 lead with 3:53 left. Duke cut the deficit to two, but Mitchell knocked down a rebound and Harris drained a 3-pointer before Brogdon sealed it with eight more points down the stretch.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia was playing in its first ACC championship game since 1994 and became the third straight team from outside the state of North Carolina to win it after Florida State (2012) and Miami (2013) took the last two. … Duke’s five-game winning streak in ACC tournament finals came to an end. The Blue Devils are 19-12 all time in ACC title games. … Virginia finished with a 39-34 edge on the boards and survived despite missing 13-of-38 free throws.
