Maryland 75, No. 5 Virginia 69 (OT): Seth Allen scored 20 points, including the first five in overtime, as the Terrapins won their final ACC regular season game against the visiting Cavaliers.
Allen made two layups and a free throw as Maryland (17-14, 9-9) never trailed in overtime. Dez Wells had 16 of his 18 points in the second half and overtime and Evan Smotrycz scored notched all 13 of his points in the first half for the Terrapins, who snapped their first ever six-game losing streak to Virginia.
Anthony Gill put up 15 points and freshman London Perrantes had 14 points, but 12 of those came in the first half for the Cavaliers (25-6, 16-2). Malcolm Brogdon and Joe Harris had 12 points each and Brogdon added seven assists and five rebounds.
After Allen staked the Terrapins to a 69-64 lead midway through overtime, Evan Nolte made a three-point play to bring Virginia to within two at 69-67. Wells and Gill traded layups before Jake Layman made four three throws to seal the win for the Terrapins, who will wrap up their 61st and final season in the ACC at next week's conference tournament.
Maryland led by four points on three occasions in the final four-plus minutes before Virginia made a free throw and Gill scored off an in-bounds play to force overtime. Wells came alive in the second half, scoring the first six points of an 11-3 run that gave the Terrapins their biggest lead at 45-37 with 16 minutes remaining. Virginia regained a 52-51 lead seven minutes later on a 3-pointer by Harris, but would not lead again.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Perrantes went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in the first half, falling one short of tying the school record of nine straight made 3-pointers, as the Cavaliers led 35-34 at halftime. ... Maryland shot 47.9 percent against Virginia's top-ranked defense. ... The loss snapped a 13-game winning streak for the Cavaliers, who had hoped to lock up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
