Georgia Tech 78, North Carolina A&T 71: Trae Golden scored 20 points and the host Yellow Jackets overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to spoil the Aggies’ upset bid.

Georgia Tech (4-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season but struggled most of the way, shooting 29-for-46 from the free-throw line and trailing for most of the second half. Marcus Georges-Hunt scored 16 points, while Kammeon Holsey and Daniel Miller added 10 points each.

Richaud Pack led North Carolina A&T (1-3) with 19 points while Khary Doby hit four 3-pointers en route to 17 points. Bruce Beckford added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Aggies, who shot 10-for-22 from 3-point range.

The Yellow Jackets were down 49-38 with 13:47 remaining, but rallied to take the lead for good at 68-66 on Stacey Poole Jr.’s two free throws with 4:43 remaining. The Aggies shot 2-for-9 from the field in the final five minutes as the Yellow Jackets closed the contest with a 15-5 surge.

Georgia Tech started quickly, building an 18-9 lead on Solomon Poole’s 3-pointer with 10:53 remaining in the first half. The Aggies, however, held the Yellow Jackets to just one field goal over the next 9:07, using a 23-7 spurt during that stretch to help build a 37-33 halftime lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Golden surpassed 1,000 points for his career on a layup with 12:14 remaining. … The two teams were called for a combined 57 fouls and shot 77 free throws. … Sunday’s game marked the first of four games in seven days for the Yellow Jackets, who face Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday before playing in the Barclays Classic in New York on Thursday and Friday.
