Georgia Tech 82, Wake Forest 62: Robert Carter Jr. scored a career-high 20 points, including 15 in the first half, to lead the host Yellow Jackets past the Demon Deacons and give Georgia Tech its first ACC victory.

Carter, a freshman forward, was 9-for-10 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Marcus Georges-Hunt added 12 points and six rebounds to help Georgia Tech (11-7, 1-5 ACC) snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 9-2 at home.

Wake Forest (10-9, 3-4) fell to 1-5 on the road. The Yellow Jackets were led by C.J. Harris, who scored 18 points to surpass 1,400 in his career and grabbed seven rebounds. Devin Thomas added eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Georgia Tech set the tone early and emphatically, jumping out to a 16-0 lead and increasing it to 37-7 with 8:51 left in the first half to put the game out of reach. The Yellow Jackets led 52-29 at halftime. Wake Forest appeared sluggish coming off an 86-84 victory at home against No. 18 North Carolina State on Tuesday, the program’s first win against a ranked opponent in nearly three years.

Georgia Tech shot 54.2 percent (32-for-59) while Wake Forest shot 35.1 percent (20-for-57). The Yellow Jackets were 50 percent (10-for-20) from 3-point range as five players made two apiece from long distance. Georgia Tech registered 20 assists.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgia Tech and Wake Forest are tied at 37 in the series. … The Yellow Jackets came into the game 0-5 in ACC play for the first time since the 2008-09 team began the season 0-6. … Georgia Tech’s Daniel Miller has started 80 consecutive games, the team’s longest streak, and has not missed a game in his career.
