Nebraska 68, Penn State 64: Shavon Shields scored a career-high 29 points and Ray Gallegos added 15 as the visiting Cornhuskers survived a wild finish and held off the Nittany Lions.

Penn State (8-10, 0-6 Big Ten) had a chance to take the lead with under 30 seconds left, when D.J. Newbill was fouled going to the basket after forcing a turnover and Brandon Ubel was called for a flagrant foul on the same play. Newbill and Ross Travis combined to hit one of the four free throws and Jermaine Marshall, who was fouled on the ensuing possession, missed both of his chances to leave Nebraska with a 66-64 edge.

Ubel hit two free throws at the other end to seal it. The senior finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Cornhuskers (10-9, 1-5).

The Nittany Lions held a 52-48 edge after Marshall was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 8:11 left and hit all three chances from the line. But Penn State went over four minutes without scoring as Shields recorded seven straight points to spark an 11-0 run, putting Nebraska back on top for good.

Marshall scored 18 points and Newbill added 11 for the Nittany Lions, who went 15-of-24 from the free throw line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Penn State will play No. 2 Indiana and No. 11 Ohio State over its next two games as it tries to secure its first Big Ten win. … Nebraska went 16-of-16 at the free throw line as it reached 60 points for the first time in conference play. … Ubel (elbow) had missed the previous two games.
