Louisiana State 75, Houston Baptist 58: Shavon Coleman scored 11 points and established career highs with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the host Tigers past the Huskies.

Andre Stringer also scored 11 points – all in the first half – for LSU (8-2), which was missing two key players. Johnny O’Bryant III, the team’s second-leading scorer and leading rebounder, missed the game with an undisclosed injury while Anthony Hickey, who leads the nation in steals (3.5), sat out for disciplinary reasons.

Tyler Russell scored 15 points and Caleb Crayton had a season-high 11 for Houston Baptist (4-8).

LSU scored the game’s first seven points as the Huskies went the first 4:10 without a point. The Tigers led by as many as 16 points in the opening 20 minutes before taking a 36-25 advantage into the half.

The teams traded baskets early in the second half before Coleman scored the first six points during an 8-0 run that put LSU ahead 47-29.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hickey was also suspended for disciplinary reasons Dec. 11 against Chattanooga. O’Bryant, a 6-9 sophomore forward, missed the second game of the season against McNeese State with a leg injury. … Jalen Courtney took advantage of extra playing time in the second half to produce a season-high 11 points for the Tigers. … Andrew Del Piero, the 7-3 former band member for LSU, produced career highs of nine points and four blocks.
