Vanderbilt 66, Xavier 64 (OT): Kyle Fuller scored all 12 of the Commodores’ points in the extra period as they defeated the host Musketeers for the first time in six all-time meetings.

Fuller finished with a career-high 25 points, Kedren Johnson scored 19 and Kevin Bright added 11 and 10 rebounds for Vanderbilt (3-4), which avenged an overtime loss to Xavier (6-2) a season ago.

In the extra period, Fuller gave the Commodores their first lead since the 16:07 mark of the first half on the first possession and put them ahead for good with a jumper with 1:27 remaining. On Vanderbilt’s next possession, he converted a three-point play and a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to answer a 3-pointer from Brad Redford that pulled the Musketeers within one point.

Consecutive three-point plays by Travis Taylor and one by Justin Martin helped Xavier open a 13-point lead on two occasions early in the second half – the second coming with 15:21 remaining – before the Commodores used a 17-4 run over a 6:25 stretch to tie the game at 47.

Taylor scored a team-high 15 points for Xavier while Isaiah Philmore posted his first double-double since the end of the 2010-11 season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Martin had his legs taken out from under him on a rebound attempt in overtime and needed several minutes to collect himself before walking to the Xavier bench and leaving for the locker room shortly thereafter. He did not return. … Both teams struggled mightily from the foul line as Vanderbilt shot just 13-of-25 while Xavier hit just 9-of-17. The Musketeers entered the game ranked 20th in the nation in free-throw percentage. … After losing all five of their overtime games last season, the Commodores won in their first attempt in 2012.
