Brenton Williams scored 22 points as the host Gamecocks pulled away in the second half to upend the Broncs in the Hoops for Hope Classic.

Williams hit five 3-pointers and Mindaugas Kacinas came off the bench to add 18 points for South Carolina (3-0). LaShay Page added four 3-pointers, finishing with 12 points.

Rider (2-2) trailed by 14 points in the first half, but closed to within 41-35 on Junior Fortunat’s dunk with 1:33 left in the half. The Broncs were as close as 63-56 on Nurideen Lindsey’s 3-pointer with 11:47 remaining, but the Gamecocks put the game away in the final 10 minutes.

South Carolina finished 13-for-27 from 3-point range, and shot 53.3 percent from the field.

Lindsey led Rider with 26 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Broncs also shot well from the field, finishing at 50.9 percent. … The Gamecocks were not as accurate from the free-throw line, going 13-for-27 (48.1 percent).
