Junior Varez Ward scored 17 points to help Auburn to a 59-51 victory over visiting Georgia on Wednesday, snapping the Tigers’ two-game losing streak and improving their record to 12-1 at home.

It was the second straight double-figure scoring game for Ward, who had failed to do so in his previous eight games. He made only 2 of 9 from the field, but was a perfect 12 for 12 from the line despite being a 60 percent free throw shooter.

Auburn (13-9, 3-5 SEC) also got 16 points and six rebounds from Kenny Gabriel, who converted a three-point play with 38.3 seconds left to ice the game. The Tigers shot only 33 percent from the floor, but made 25 of 31 free throws.

Georgia (10-11, 1-6) lost its third straight game despite 16 points and seven rebounds from Gerald Robinson. Freshman standout Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored only six points - seven below his average - and made only 1 of 8 from the field, that coming with two minutes left.

The game began at a slow pace and Georgia led 10-9 with 9:26 left in the first half, only to have Auburn go on a 13-0 run and take a 26-15 halftime edge.
