Cammeron Woodyard scored 17 points to lead Penn State to a 54-52 upset win Thursday over No. 25 Illinois at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Penn State (10-10) stopped a three-game skid with the win over Illinois (15-4), which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Tim Frazier knocked down a floater in the paint to put Penn State ahead with just 4.5 seconds remaining in the game. Illinois guard Sam Maniscalco attempted to tie the score on a layup in the dying seconds, but the ball was blocked by Jermaine Marshall as time expired.

Frazier, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, had a quiet night with 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Woodyard, coming off a career-high 22 points against Minnesota, scored 10 of his points in the first half and shot 3for 4 from long range.

Brandon Paul, a game removed from his 43-point explosion against Ohio State, had some big buckets down the stretch for Illinois, including a long 3-pointer to tie the game at 52-52 with just over 30 seconds left. He finished with 20 points.

Illinois 7-foot center Meyers Leonard scored 15 points and grabbed only four rebounds before fouling out in the final minute of the game.

This was Penn State’s second straight win over Illinois at home, defeating the Illini 57-55 last season.

Six of the last nine meetings between these programs have been decided by two points or less.
