Bernard James had 18 points and 13 rebounds, his sixth double-double, and Ian Miller scored 15 points off the bench as visiting Florida State held off Virginia Tech 63-59 for its first ACC win.

The Seminoles’ defense continued its torrid pace, limiting the Hokies (11-4, 0-2 ACC) to 31 percent from the field. It marked the 114th time in 116 games that Florida State held an opponent under 50 percent shooting. The ‘Noles (10-6, 1-1 ACC) also added to their conference-leading blocks total, turning away 13 Virginia Tech shots to reach 112 on the year -- 5th best in the NCAA.

James blocked three shots, surpassing Mike Matthews for seventh place in Florida State history.

Since missing 11 games to start the year, Miller has sparked the Seminoles’ offense, averaging 14 points over five games.

Erick Green carried Virginia Tech with 21 points, extending his streak of double-figure point totals to an ACC-best 18 straight games.

The win was the first on the road for the Seminoles, who improved to 26-19 all-time against the Hokies.
