Shorthanded and desperate, UCLA rode the hot-shooting of the Wear brothers to a 65-58 victory over visiting Arizona in Anaheim, Calif., on Thursday.
The Bruins, already playing without center Joshua Smith who suffered a concussion at practice Wednesday, got a career-high 20 points from Travis Wear and 14 from David Wear to snap a two-game losing streak and notch their first conference win.
Despite being plagued by foul troubles, UCLA (8-7, 1-2 Pac-12) led throughout. But David Wear fouled out with five minutes left and immediately Arizona responded with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 57-54 with 3:32 to go.
The Bruins, however, withstood the rally, getting a key basket by Lazeric Jones (13 points) with 40 seconds to play and a steal and a free throw by Tyler Lamb to seal the contest on the next trip down the court.
The Wear brothers were a combined 13-for-16 from the field.
Arizona (10-5, 1-1) had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Wildcats were led by Solomon Hill with 16 points.
