Solomon Hill scored a career-high 23 points and Kyle Fogg added 17 as Arizona notched an 85-73 victory over visiting Oakland on Tuesday.
Hill made 8-of-10 field-goal attempts and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Wildcats (8-4) built a 19-point second-half lead and held off a charge by the Golden Grizzlies.
Reggie Hamilton scored 31 points and Travis Bader added 17 for Oakland (8-5).
The Wildcats led 67-48 after a 3-point basket by Brendon Lavender with 11:39 remaining before the Golden Grizzlies went on a 19-6 run to pull within six points on Hamilton’s 3-pointer with 6:01 left.
Hill hit two free throws and Josiah Turner and Hill scored baskets during a 6-0 surge to get the lead back to 79-67 to thwart Oakland’s advance.
Arizona used a 14-0 first-run half to open up the contest and take a 34-19 lead on Nick Johnson’s 3-point basket with 6:07 remaining. Oakland rallied back to cut its halftime deficit to 40-36.
Jesse Perry added 13 points for the Wildcats, who shot 55.6 percent from the field.
Fogg became the 46th player in Arizona to top 1,000 career points. The senior has 1,015.
Hamilton was 4-of-7 on 3-point attempts but Oakland was only 9-for-32 overall.
