Kendall Timmons’s steal and dunk put Tulane up 53-52 with 34 seconds left, then Josh Davis blocked Mfon Udofia’s driving layup attempt.

It is the Green Wave’s best start since the 1991-92 team started 13-0.

Freshman guard Ricky Tarrant drilled six 3-pointers and scored 20 points in the first half as the Green Wave built a 33-26 lead. Tarrant finished with a game-high 24 points.

Georgia Tech’s Glen Rice Jr. had his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in his first start this season. Rice was suspended for the first three games and came off the bench the next four.

The Yellow Jackets (4-4) were playing their first true road game under first-year coach Brian Gregory.

Tarrant entered the game having hit 10 of 28 from beyond the arc but went 6 of 8 against the Yellow Jackets.

Tulane is the only undefeated team in Conference USA.
