Freshman Brad Beal tied a season-high with 22 points and had 10 rebounds as No. 9 Florida easily dispatched Stetson 96-70 on Monday in Orlando to give coach Billy Donovan his 400th career victory.
Erving Walker added 21 points for Florida (5-1), which beat the Hatters (3-3) for the 17th straight time, matching their longest winning streak against any opponent. The Gators have also won 17 straight over Rollins, a team they haven’t faced since 1958.
The Gators connected on a season high 14 3-pointers and have made at least 11 in each of the first six games. They hit 8-of-20 from beyond the arc in the first half en route to a 47-31 advantage.
Chris Perez scored 20 points and Adam Pegg added 19 for the Hatters, who were 1-of-18 from beyond the arc.
The victory was Donovan’s 365th at Florida and his second straight without starting forward Erik Murphy (knee). Murphy, a junior who was averaging 10.0 points and shooting 57 percent from 3-point range, suffered the injury one day before Friday’s 107-62 rout of Jacksonville.
The loss of Murphy comes at a bad time as Florida is about to head into a brutal stretch of games that begins with a visit to No. 4 Syracuse on Friday. His replacement, Will Yeguete, finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
