Freshman Rodney Cooper scored 15
points, including a pair of 3-pointers in a 10-0 run to start the game, to lead
No. 13 Alabama to an 82-45 win over Alabama A&M on Wednesday.
Cooper was one of five players in double figures for Alabama (5-0), which
improved its record to 5-0 against the Bulldogs. He made 5-of-8 from the field,
including 3-of-4 on 3-pointers, and added three rebounds. Levi Randolph was the
only other starter in double figures; he scored 10.
Reserves Charles Hankerson (16
points, nine rebounds), Nick Jacobs (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Trevor Lacey
(12 points, five rebounds) were all big contributors off the bench for Alabama.
Tony Mitchell, this week’s SEC Player of the Week, did not make a basket and
scored only two points.
Alabama A&M (2-2) fell victim to
Alabama’s tough defense, which allows only 51.8 points per game. The Tide has
allowed 60 or fewer points in every game and A&M made only 11 of 46 (23.9
percent) from the field and only 1-of-12 3-pointers. Demarquelle Tabb scored 11
and added seven rebounds and Casey Canty added 10 points for the
Bulldogs.
