D.J. Robinson scored 17 points to lead Illinois to a lopsided 79-64 win over Lipscomb in the Cancun Classic at Assembly Hall.

Illinois (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) extended its non-conference home winning streak to 21 games with the win over the Bisons.

Lipscomb (1-2, 0-0 Atlantic Sun) fell to 1-4 versus Big Ten opponents and is 9-27 in non-conference road games over the past seven seasons.

Robinson and backcourt mate Sam Maniscalco combined for 32 of Illinois’ total points. The Illini broke the game open with a 14-0 run midway through the second half after struggling with fouls early in the game.

Illinois committed 10 personal fouls in the opening period, sending Lipscomb to the line nine times. That was enough for a scrappy Bisons team to hang around, trailing by only three points early into the second half.

However, Illinois' length and athleticism took over down the stretch, plugging up the passing lanes and swatting away six wayward shots. Illinois entered the game leading the country in total blocks with 24.

Lipscomb was paced by guard Robert Boyd, who scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the first half before being slowed by an ankle injury. He finished with 16 points and seven boards. Guard Jacob Arnett added 17 points for the Bisons in the loss.

Illinois' 7-foot-1 center Meyers Leonard picked up two quick fouls and sat most of the first half. He was solid on both ends of the floor in the second half, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds, while blocking two shots and changing numerous others.

The Fighting Illini will meet Richmond in the Cancun Classic championship round Tuesday.
