The Orange (21-6, 8-6 Big East) overcame a four-point halftime deficit and survived a barrage of 3-pointers by the Mountaineers (16-9, 7-6 Big East) to snap a two-game skid.

Casey Mitchell hit seven of West Virginia’s 11 3-pointers and finished with 23 points. But the Mountaineers could not crack the Syracuse zone and finished with just four points in the paint.

Syracuse’s defensive effort included 13 steals and four blocks. Point guard Scoop Jardine had five of those steals to go along with nine points and six assists. Kris Joseph added 16 points, and Rick Jackson finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

John Flowers was the only Mountaineer besides Mitchell to reach double figures. Flowers finished with 10 points.
