Nolan Smith led with 18 points and five assists and Seth Curry added 16 points as No. 5 Duke held off Miami, 81-71, in Coral Gables, Florida, on Sunday.
Kyle Singler chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Devils (23-2, 10-1 ACC), who have won four in a row to increase their lead in the ACC to 1 1/2 games over rival North Carolina.
Reggie Johnson and Malcolm Grant scored 16 points apiece for the Hurricanes (15-10, 4-7), who missed their chance to add a signature win to the NCAA Tournament and are in serious danger of having their bubble burst.
Miami hung with Duke for most of the first half, owning a 37-33 lead with 2:48 left until the break. But the Blue Devils finished the period on a 9-0 run, highlighted when Curry missed two free throws but Miles Plumlee got the offensive rebound and sent it back out to Curry, who knocked down a 3-pointer.
The Hurricanes would pull to within two possessions in the final minute but could not close the gap.
Duke will not face another ranked team until finishing out the regular season at No. 21 North Carolina.
