Kevin Jones had 13 points and 12 rebounds and West Virginia's defense stifled Seton Hall throughout its 56-44 victory Wednesday night in Morgantown, W.Va.

Jones, a third-year forward, was the only player from either team to score more than 10 points in a game decided by shut-down defense and bad shot selection. The Mountaineers (15-6, 6-3 Big East) shot just 41.1 percent for the game but had little trouble against a Pirates squad that made just 6 of 26 shots in the first half.

West Virginia opened up a 16-point lead at the break and extended it to 24 just short of the midway point of the second half. Seton Hall gradually chipped away over the final 10 minutes but could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way as West Virginia extended its winning streak over the Pirates to seven.

The numbers were ugly all around for Seton Hall (10-13, 4-7), which came out flat following impressive victories over Syracuse and Providence to end the month of January. The Pirates shot 29.5 percent from the field and 2 for 19 from 3-point range, finishing with just five assists after dishing out 38 in their wins over the Orange and Friars.

The win was a critical one for the Mountaineers, who play six of their final eight regular-season games against teams currently ranked in the top 20.

Cam Thoroughman, John Flowers and Deniz Kilicli each added 10 points for the Mountaineers. Joe Mazzula hauled down 10 boards to help West Virginia finish with a 46-32 rebounding advantage for the game.

Jeff Robinson's nine points led the way for the Pirates, whose starting five combined to make just 10 of 42 shots on the night.
